Seaplane tours this winter

The city loops fly all winter. The Whistler flights do not. And this year British Columbia keeps its clocks on summer time, which moves the light. Here is how that changes your booking.

Seaplane season in Vancouver does not really end. Both downtown airlines run their city tours every day of the year, from the same docks on the Coal Harbour seawall. What changes between October and April is the light, the weather and the list of trips on sale.

Three things are new or worth knowing for 2026-27: the clocks stay put on 1 November, the Whistler flights are already over until next May, and November is still the wettest month of the year. Plan around those and a winter flight is an easy booking.

The quick answer

The Harbour Air classic and extended panoramas and Seair's City Skyline tour run daily all winter. The Vancouver to Whistler flight and the Whistler glacier tour are summer only and return in May 2027. From 1 November 2026 British Columbia stays on daylight time, so December sunrises come around 9 a.m. and sunsets around 5 p.m.: book a late-morning or early-afternoon slot.

Do Vancouver seaplane tours run in winter?

Yes. Harbour Air offers its classic and extended panoramas daily, year-round, and Seair says its tours operate every day, year-round.

Harbour Air's Vancouver tours page lists the Vancouver Classic Panorama and the Vancouver Extended Panorama as "offered daily, available year-round". Seair's City Skyline page says the same of its tours. Harbour Air also lists its Victoria Fly 'n' Drive, which uses the scheduled flight to Victoria, as offered daily and available year-round. The summer-only trips are the ones that start or end in Whistler.

What does permanent daylight time mean for a winter flight?

On 1 November 2026 the clocks do not go back, so winter mornings stay dark until about 9 a.m. and the sun sets after 5 p.m.

The province has adopted permanent year-round daylight time, now called Pacific time: "On November 1, 2026, when previously clocks would have been turned back an hour, no change will be made." The result is one more hour of light in the evening and one less in the morning, all winter.

For a floatplane that matters. Calculated for Coal Harbour on the new Pacific time, the sun rises around 9:05 a.m. and sets around 5:15 p.m. on 21 December (any date can be checked on the NRC sunrise and sunset calculator). A 9 a.m. slot in December takes off right at sunrise. Skip it. Book something between late morning and early afternoon, in full daylight.

How likely is the weather to cancel a winter seaplane tour?

More likely than in summer. November to January average about 20 days with rain or snow a month at Vancouver airport, against about 6 in July.

Environment and Climate Change Canada's 1991-2020 climate normals for Vancouver International Airport put November as the wettest month, at 174.6 mm, with December and January close behind. July gets 34.1 mm. Every floatplane flight is weather dependent: Seair says it will contact you if changes, delays or cancellations are needed, and on Viator, if the operator cancels a flight for weather, you are offered a different date or a full refund.

Our advice: book the flight for early in your stay, so a grounded day still leaves you a second chance. Every Viator listing on this site cancels for a full refund up to 24 hours before, so you can also wait for a good forecast and book late. Our seaplane tour tips cover what to wear and bring.

Which seaplane trips stop for the winter?

Everything that lands in Whistler. The Vancouver to Whistler route and the Whistler glacier tour run May to September.

Harbour Air's Whistler terminal page announced the seasonal return of the Vancouver to Whistler route on 15 May 2026, and its Whistler tours page lists the Spectacular Glacier Tour as offered daily from May to September. On Viator, the next season for the one-way flight to Whistler runs from 17 May to 30 September 2027, with one departure a day at 10:00 a.m.

Some Harbour Air packages are seasonal too: its Spend the Day in Victoria package with Butchart Gardens is sold from 15 April to 4 October, and its Victoria whale watching day from 1 April to 6 November. Several of these packages are also leaving Viator: see which Harbour Air packages leave Viator after 11 October.

Is a winter seaplane tour worth it?

On a clear day, yes: Harbour Air flies its classic and extended panoramas daily all year. On a grey day, wait or pick another day.

The listings give the same flight times all year: about 20 minutes in the air on the classic loops, about 35 on the extended route. Harbour Air says the extended panorama follows its pilots' best seasonal route, so what you see on the second half can change with the season.

If the planes are grounded on your last day, FlyOver Canada at Canada Place is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to Flyover's own site. It is a simulated ride, not a flight, but it runs in any weather.

The extended route adds about 15 minutes over Howe Sound and its islands, weather permitting.
